The Baltimore Ravens desperately needed a quarterback with Lamar Jackson injured and Tyler Huntley done for the season, and we all wondered if Jacoby Brissett was an option now that he's been benched by the Arizona Cardinals.
Turns out the answer on Wednesday was: Yes. The Cardinals and Ravens will reportedly finalize a deal for the veteran after Thursday's Baltimore game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in time for him to play in Week 10.
Usually, that would mean we're handing out grades for both sides here, but because the return for Brissett hasn't been announced, we have to slightly alter how we approach this. Let's talk about Brissett's fit.
Why isn't there any return announced yet for Jacoby Brissett?
It's because the deal will be finalized AFTER the Ravens game on Thursday.
Ravens trade grade
The Ravens come into Week
9 at 4-4 and desperate. They're starting Joe Fagano this week, so of course this is the kind of deal Baltimore had to make (although they could have waved the white flag and traded, say, Derrick Henry). But Brissett has shown he's more than capable of making throws in Arizona. You do get around one interception per game these days, but he did throw for 3,366 yards last year with 23 touchdowns. That's obviously better than what Fagano could do, and maybe if Jackson comes back later this season, the journeyman can hold it down while Jackson is on the mend.
Also this is great news for Zay Flowers, who may see the kind of volume he was getting before Jackson was injured. GRADE: B
Cardinals trade grade
We obviously don't know the return yet, but getting anything for a now-benched veteran like Brissett is a good thing. GRADE: Incomplete
