As Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to surge at the box office, it appears that in some places, it's been a tall task just managing to get tickets. As Variety initially reported, the newest addition to Tom Holland's stretch as the beloved superhero raked in a historic $360 million domestically and $932 million globally. Arguably, the most shocking aspect of the record-breaking start is that Spider-Man: Brand New Day topped another Marvel fan-favorite, Avengers: Endgame.
The popularity itself isn't a huge surprise, even if the box office numbers are staggering, and as Sony CEO Tom Rothman explained recently, he couldn't even hook up his nephew with tickets. As Rothman told The Wrap, his nephew couldn't find a single ticket available.
"Not a
single theater seat in Manhattan was empty!" Rothman said. "My nephew was begging, 'Uncle Tom, get me a ticket!' and I had to tell him that there was nothing I could do. He complained I was useless, but I’ve been called worse things," he said with a laugh.
Not being able to find a single ticket for a movie in 2026 is almost unheard of, and the fact that Sony's CEO couldn't do much to help is even more amazing. Apparently, the power of Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, and the rest of the cast is enough to not only sell out movie theaters but also do so throughout all of Manhattan.
