Everyone loves a good underdog story. In the eyes of many fans, the Milwaukee Brewers entered the 2026 NLCS matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers as the underdog, but it seems no one told the Brew Crew that. After being swept by the Dodgers in last season's NLCS, the Brewers didn't just top the World Series favorites; they returned the favor with a 4-0 sweep of their own.
For comparison's sake, the Brewers scored four total runs in last year's NLCS and finished this year's matchup with 21. This Milwaukee group played with a level of confidence and swagger most might expect from the other dugout, and the results showed.
While the only real takeaway that matters from this series is that the Brewers are now competing for a World Series title, they
also made history with their "reverse sweep" of the Dodgers. As QBgami highlighted, the Brewers are the first team in American sports to get swept 0-4 in the playoffs, and sweep that same opponent 4-0 the very next year.

A “revenge sweep” has only happened 4x prior - never in consecutive 7-game series, and never in the MLB at all. pic.twitter.com/6uanwgEJYV
For those curious, the other four occasions happened as early as 1929-30, with the most recent in the 1967-68 NBA season. QBgami also broke down how each series looked, with two in the NBA and two in the NHL:
NBA:
- 1953-54: Celtics/Nationals (2-0, 0-2)
- 1967-68: Warriors/Lakers (3-0, 0-4)
NHL:
- 1929-30: Bruins/Canadiens (3-0, 0-2)
- 1941-42: Bruins/Red Wings (4-0, 0-2)
For Brewers fans, as sweet as the revenge sweep of the Dodgers was, you can also bask in the fact that this team officially made some MLB and sports history in the process.
Next up for the Brewers is the winner of the Tampa Bay Rays-Cleveland Guardians series in the World Series. Heading into Friday night's Game 4, the Guardians lead the series 2-1, with Game 5 scheduled for Saturday.
