We're only heading into Week 6 of the NFL season, and plenty of uncertainty has been placed over the future of ESPN's Monday Night Football booth. But ESPN's highest-paid personality wants to make it known that has no interest in that broadcast booth.
While play-by-play announcer Joe Buck was able to reach an extension to remain ESPN's lead NFL broadcaster on Monday Night Football, his broadcast partner Troy Aikman remains unsigned in the final year of his deal. That contract drama reportedly led to an argument between the longtime colleagues.
And given the potentially untenable situation, several reports pointed to Pat McAfee has a possible replacement for Aikman.
McAfee — who hosts a daily show in addition to working College GameDay and Monday
Night Countdown — denied the report in a tweet on Wednesday. In his Thursday show, the ESPN personality elaborated on why he absolutely will not be Aikman's replacement.
I've already posted that this isn't real..

There's Monday Night Football business happening in a very public way..
We're BIG fans of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman..
I'm not supposed to be in a football booth and there’s never been a conversation about me being in the Monday Night… pic.twitter.com/5BzzL3ownM
McAfee said:
"I am not supposed to be a color commentator for football. That is something I've decided. I've had the chance to try it a couple times. I hated it. I got bored. For the field pass, I do play-by-play. I am not a good enough play-by-play person to be doing any of these big-time games. But I am pretty perfect for an altcast. We have been very, very happy and content with where I'm at. My brain and the way I operate is not good to be a color commentator for a football game."
He also said that there had been zero conversations with ESPN brass about the MNF booth. And for as much as ESPN is willing to push McAfee on viewers, those remarks should be the end of the speculation.
