The New York Knicks are welcoming fans back to Madison Square Garden with a free t-shirt to celebrate a championship. But there is one small problem.
After winning the 2025-26 NBA championship, the Knicks ended their 53-year drought by winning a five-game series against the San Antonio Spurs. The 2026 summer will feel immortalized for many New Yorkers who got to witness the city come alive when the Knicks secured their victory in the NBA Finals.
Fans attending the opening matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers will get to take home a piece of history. However, it's maybe not for the reasons that the team expected when they designed this merchandise.

The t-shirt says "2026-27 Champions Night" on the front, which is technically not incorrect. Tonight is Opening Night in 2026-27 and that is when they're celebrating the 2025-26 championship victory.
However, while they're celebrating it on Opening Night in 2026-27, it's a little bit confusing at first glance as it looks like they're commemorating a championship for the upcoming season and not the prior one.
