The Chicago White Sox are losing their grip on the American League Central, losing seven of their last 10 games as the Cleveland Guardians sit a half-game back of the division lead. With the team needing a spark, it found one from an unlikely source.
Tommy Pham, who's bounced around from the New York Mets to the Philadelphia Phillies before landing with the White Sox this season, started and bat cleanup Wednesday against the Guardians. He earned his spot in a rather unlikely way.
According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, Pham ran into White Sox general manager Chris Getz in an elevator Tuesday night and told him he was ready to go. Getz took him for his word and activated Pham, who'd been dealing with a calf issue, off the injured list.
Pham proceeded
to hit a go-ahead home run in the fifth inning.

It's Pham's first home run of the season and it came at the exact right time. Baseball sure works in mysterious ways.
