Wednesday night was momentous for Barack Obama's beloved Chicago White Sox. With a 7-3 victory over the Houston Astros, the young, brash, and "Don't know any better" White Sox broke a 21-year drought without an MLB playoff series victory
. Munetaka Murakami's incredible celebratory interviews in the White Sox locker room are capturing the joyful essence of a team every neutral observer might soon fall in love with this October, not just former United States Presidents. These immaculate vibes did not transfer over to the White Sox's crosstown rival, the Chicago Cubs. The Northsiders were eliminated from the postseason by the San Diego Padres after getting brutally outscored 12-1 over two games. As much fun as the White Sox had earlier in the evening,
the Cubs later found themselves quietly packing their bags to finish one last unceremonious road trip this season.
A tried-and-true Chicagoan, Obama ensured he didn't inadvertently pour salt in the wounds for half of the playoff-watching city. Although the White Sox advanced to the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians around 7:30 p.m. Central Time, Obama actually waited until 12:11 p.m. Central Time to congratulate them on X. His timing is conspicuous because the Cubs were officially eliminated only a little earlier, and his most recent post beforehand celebrated both the White Sox and Cubs (with a parenthetical) for making the playoffs at the same time. (So, you know, he's a little judicious with what he'll say about sports teams he's connected to.)
I'm not going to pretend to know exactly what the former President was thinking, but that sure seems like a man who didn't want to make Cubs fans feel worse (or jealous, it could be both!) after the best moment for his team in over two decades:
Congrats @WhiteSox — let’s keep it going! https://t.co/4mP1CHRxxe

As a Chicagoan and White Sox fan myself, I will admit that I get where Obama's coming from. I'm sorry, Cubs fans. Maybe next year, folks. And in the spirit of Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear, oh no! ... Anyway, how about them White Sox!
When will the White Sox play the Guardians in the ALDS?
Game 1 of this playoff series will take place at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, October 3rd. It will be broadcast on TBS, truTV, and HBO Max.
