At this stage of his career, Case Keenum is no longer in "expects to play" mode. The 38-year-old veteran is mainly on the Chicago Bears roster to act as another helping hand and voice for Caleb Williams and his backup, Tyson Bagent. Anything else he offers to the team is gravy.
Well, about that.
With Williams (hamstring) and Bagent (concussion) both likely out for the Bears' upcoming home Monday night matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, it's exceedingly probable that Keenum will have to start at quarterback for Chicago. As the Bears began ramping up their preparation for the game on Wednesday, Keenum came to the press conference podium and addressed the absurdity of a caretaker player like him possibly and suddenly being thrust into action.
For all intents and purposes, he went full Ron Burgundy, which was fitting:

Keenum has a lot of experience and has had success in intermittent stops throughout his career. It wouldn't be that wild to see him enjoy some success against the Eagles if he is indeed forced to play. But man, there's no way he was expecting to actually even be in this situation at the start of the year.
