The New York Jets are hoping for big things out of their rookie tight end, Kenyon Sadiq. Unfortunately, they're probably going to have to wait at least the duration of the entire 2026 preseason before they can get a really good look at the No. 16 overall pick in this past spring's draft.
On Tuesday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that Sadiq had some sort of setback in his recovery from offseason hernia surgery. He is expected to miss some time as a result, though it's unclear how long exactly at the time of this writing. Glenn and the Jets apparently remain confident that Sadiq will be ready for the team's Week 1 matchup on the road against the Tennessee Titans, which, thankfully for all parties involved, is still just about six weeks away.
Nonetheless, it's never good to see a young player already have some issues with surgery recovery:

Sadiq is expected to have a big role in a Jets offense trying to establish a new identity. So, whenever he does return to meaningful practice, here's hoping he's plenty healthy for what New York will soon put on his plate.
What is the average hernia surgery recovery time?
It depends on the type of hernia surgery, per Cleveland Clinic, but it usually takes about 4-6 weeks, with another month or so allowing for internal healing. This would line up with Sadiq's timeline, even with his setback.
Who is Kenyon Sadiq's backup on the Jets?
Mason Taylor is listed as Sadiq's backup on the Jets' depth chart.
