It was one of the funniest and most viral moments in Week 5 of the 2026 NFL schedule: San Francisco 49ers wideout Mike Evans got in the face of Seattle Seahawks cornerback Trevon Diggs... and then the vet had to look at the back of Diggs' jersey, a move that could have been insulting, as if to say, "Who are you?"
Evans had a good explanation for it, or at least it was his claim: He didn't actually know who it was who he was talking to.
"I didn't know that was him at first, because I've played against him a few times, and we've always been cool," he said. "I honestly didn't know it was him, because in the helmet, it's hard to tell sometimes. ... I looked to make sure, 'Oh, it's [expletive] Diggs.'"
WARNING: NSFW langauge ahead.
Mike Evans really
didn't recognize Trevon Diggs at first. 😂 "I honestly didn't know it was him ... I was like, 'Who are you?' Then I looked and made sure: 'Oh, it's f---in' Diggs.'" 😂 pic.twitter.com/rprr7g4r8a

Too funny. We've seen something similar happen in the NHL in years past with Auston Matthews, and it's quite the insult:
Mike Evans pulled the same move Matthews did on Sabourin in 2019 😅 pic.twitter.com/mqDWZma3DX
