The Dallas Cowboys potentially began plugging their biggest weakness with an in-season trade. One year removed from fielding the NFL's worst defense, owner and general manager Jerry Jones added a Pro Bowl caliber cornerback for the modest cost of a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second rounder.
Porter Jr. has yet to play in 2026 due to a combination of a contract standoff and lingering back injury -- one that may have been exacerbated in an unofficial holdout as he worked toward a deal that would pay him top-of-market money after loggingan elite 57.2 passer rating in coverage last winter. He should be an immediate difference maker once he takes the field in Dallas. The Cowboys once again have been gashed en route to a 32nd place rank when it comes
to expected points added (EPA).
Porter Jr. realizes his potential to be part of the change that lifts his new team back to the postseason. After the news broke early Thursday morning, he took to Instagram to address his impending move.

"Here I come... Dallas" wrote Porter Jr., over an image of himself celebrating, an alternate, cornerback-related definition of seat belt with Kenny Rogers' The Gambler in the background. That's a fair amount to process, but it should be exciting both for the player, his new franchise and fans across Dallas-Fort Worth.
