Ohio State is at risk of falling out of the College Football Playoff picture after an ugly loss to Oregon at home on Saturday.
The Ducks took down the Buckeyes, 41-28, in a game where Ohio State once led by 14 points. While quarterback Julian Sayin still isn't playing and may not return this season with an arm injury, a loss like this is still wild to see.
Ryan Day won a national title with Ohio State in 2025, but the longtime Ohio State coach could find himself on the hot seat if the losses keep piling up without Sayin in the lineup.
The team's marquee Michigan game on Nov. 28 at home could be the dividing line between Day getting grace for Sayin's injury to return in 2027 without any questions or him finding his seat heating up more than ever.
While Ohio State most likely won't fire Day after Saturday's Oregon debacle, his seat is pretty warm right now. If the Buckeyes can't turn things around, we really might be talking about a new Ohio State coach for 2027 and beyond.
Is offensive coordinator Arthur Smith on the hot seat?
It's very possible Smith could be the scapegoat for Day by season's ned if the school wants to keep its head coach.
