There's a lot to like about the Chicago Bears entering the 2026 NFL season, especially on offense.
Potential MVP candidate Caleb Williams seems to have developed a greater understanding of Ben Johnson's offense. Newly extended All-Pro right tackle Darnell Wright leads what might remain one of the NFL's premier offensive lines. Weapons like Colston Loveland, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and a backfield featuring D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai also figure to give Chicago an extremely dangerous offense.
Ah, but that's the rub. There's only one ball, but so many different mouths to feed, particularly from a fantasy football perspective. Should any of those big-name Bears get injured between now and the end of Chicago's season, it's easy to see
them summarily losing ground in the pecking order.
That's bad news for Odunze, who is already dealing with an undisclosed injury ahead of the Bears' Week 1 road matchup with the Carolina Panthers this Sunday:
Ben Johnson says Bears WR Rome Odunze is day-to-day. He won't practice today. The injury is different than the foot that he dealt with last season.

To be fair, it doesn't look like Odunze will actually miss the game, barring a setback over the next few days. A day-to-day distinction makes it pretty clear he will still suit up. But the mere fact that the former first-round draft pick is already dealing with health issues after a broken foot mired the second half of his 2025 season is pretty concerning at face value.
Odunze may well play against Carolina, but it doesn't mean he'll be "healthy" until we actually know what he's dealing with. Given Odunze's recent history, the burden of proof is on him to show this injury is just a minor blip in a hopeful 2026 rebound campaign. Now, if it is something that will actually affect Odunze moving forward, well, let's just say the Bears found a way to generate yards and points without the young receiver. Johnson's offense is an "all gas, no brakes" type of group, so whatever targets Odunze isn't potentially getting will probably be funneled to Loveland and Burden, who also seem primed for respective star breakouts.
If you're a fantasy manager of Odunze, I'm not saying to panic. I'm not saying to drop him and pivot right now. I'm saying to proceed with caution, understanding that the explosive Bears will waste no time phasing him out of the offense without batting an eyelash if his new health issues keep popping up.
You're either along for the ride, or you gotta get dropped off at the next stop.
Who is Rome Odunze's backup on the Bears?
If Odunze doesn't play against the Panthers, expect to see more of rookie third-round draft pick Zavion Thomas, who is listed as his backup on the Bears' depth chart.
