Sometimes, when you're beat in baseball, all you can do is hug it out.
That's what happened with Boston Red Sox pitcher Payton Tolle after a routine groundout from Seattle Mariners designated hitter Dominic Canzone in the top of the third inning of Monday's series opener. With the Mariners trailing 3-2, Canzone made weak contact on a 90 mph cutter and sent a dribbler back at Tolle.
Tolle quickly fielded the ball and cut off his lane to first. Instead of going for the quick tagout, the second-year Major League pitcher opened his arms wide as he went in for the hug with Canzone — which was accepted.

That's certainly not something you see every day.
Canzone probably
wasn't pleased that he couldn't get on base, but it at least made for one of the most heartwarming moments you'll see in a baseball game.
