It's not nearly as wild as it sounds at first blush, particularly when you consider who McCarthy's college coach was.

Of course, Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh worked at Michigan as its head coach when McCarthy was in school. The two won a national title together. John Harbaugh, Jim's brother, is the coach of the Giants. Wink, wink.

McCarthy is stylistically similar to Dart and could perhaps revive his NFL career in New York with another Harbaugh brother. We doubt that the Minnesota Vikings would charge much to get this deal done, and Jameis Winston's Monday night struggles against the Los Angeles Rams suggest

that he may not be the right 2026 fit.

While McCarthy might not be much better, he's at least younger and has more potential. Plus, there's the Harbaugh connection. Would Jim Harbaugh put a good word in to his brother? We imagine he would.

The idea of McCarthy resurrecting his career with John Harbaugh and the Giants may seem far-fetched, but it's at least a different path than starting Winston the rest of the year.
