The Philadelphia Eagles may need a right tackle after losing future Hall of Famer Lane Johnson to retirement.
The elite tackle announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, immediately creating a vacuum at the position. While the Eagles have options in Fred Johnson and rookie Markel Bell, the team could always use another option to keep Jalen Hurts upright at quarterback.
Who could the Eagles go to in free agency or potentially even a trade?
We've gone over the most appealing options in free agency and with teams who might be willing to trade tackles on their roster. While these options obviously won't reach the ceiling of a Lane Johnson, they may work for now.
Jonah Williams
Williams is the top free agent available at right tackle. The experienced veteran
recently played admirably for the Arizona Cardinals at right tackle and could fill in as a stopgap option for Philadelphia if he's healthy.
Jack Conklin
Conklin played at a high level for the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns throughout his career. While injuries have hampered Conklin in recent years, he's still a serviceable stopgap starter when available.
George Fant
Fant is a journeyman tackle who may still be able to fill in for a team in need. He most recently played for the Washington Commanders in 2025. Even just as a depth option, Fant fits the bill as a free agent.
Austin Jackson
If the Eagles want to get adventurous and find Johnson's long-term replacement, the team could trade for Jackson from the struggling Miami Dolphins. He's a solid veteran right tackle on an expiring deal who could win the job for the future.
Justin Skule
Skule is one of the best backup right tackles in the NFL, and he could fill in for the Eagles for a time if the team wanted to send a late-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Skule can have a decent floor as a starter.
