By no means do the Las Vegas Raiders have high expectations entering the 2026 NFL season. After all, it is only the rookie season for No. 1 overall draft pick quarterback Fernando Mendoza. The Raiders, under first-year head coach Klint Kubiak, are in rebuild mode. And when you're dialed into rebuild mode, that means getting valuable snaps for Mendoza while also seeing how a core with Mendoza, Goliath Pro Bowl tight end Brock Bowers, and Ashton Jeanty works together is paramount over on-field results.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, they might have to put said long-term evaluations on hold after a scary moment for Jeanty during Sunday's training camp practice. Jeanty apparently collided with a teammate while running a route. He subsequently couldn't
put weight on his right leg and had to be helped off the field by Raiders athletic trainers.
You hope for the best for a guy like Jeanty and that his ultimate injury prognosis isn't nearly as bad as the above paragraph sounds.
Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty left practice early today with an apparent injury. He dove for a ball that was beyond him during team period and went down awkwardly. He was helped off the field by trainers, unable to put weight on his right leg and he did not return.

If there's any consolation for the Raiders, it's that the start of the 2026 season is still three weeks away at the time of this writing. That may be enough time for Jeanty to recover from his injury, if it isn't too serious, and be ready for a home Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. We'll probably see what the Raiders have to say about their starting running back very soon.
Who is Ashton Jeanty's backup on the Raiders?
At the time of publishing, Mike Washington Jr. is listed as Jeanty's backup on the Raiders' official depth chart. Washington is in his first season with the Raiders after being selected in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
