Are we really about to head back to the Skywalker Saga?!
According to The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, Star Wars and Tom Holland Spider-Man vet Jon Watts has been tapped to direct the first installment of a new trilogy that could be "the next phase of a potential new Skywalker Saga."
Veteran film writer, director and producer Simon Kinberg is writing the trilogy for Lucasfilm, which sounds like it would continue the Skywalker story that seemingly ended in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Watts co-created the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
"Kinberg has been working on writing a mystery trilogy since late 2024," Kit reported. "The project is intended to act as the next chapter in what is referred to as the Skywalker Saga, the stories featuring
the multi-generations of the Luke Skywalker family. The previous movies have been Episodes I through IX. The next one would be Episode X. Rey Skywalker, the Jedi played by Daisy Ridley in last trilogy released from 2015 and 2019, would appear in some capacity in the new trilogy."
So, this really may be Episode X. What a world. However, Kit added that the still-developing project hasn't gotten the official green light from Disney yet, which could put it in a long line of recent Star Wars projects that never saw the light of day.
The only Star Wars film officially on the schedule right now is next May's Star Wars: Starfighter with Ryan Gosling.
