A hamstring injury in Week 2 temporarily robbed Caleb Williams of the chance to build on his stellar 2025 breakout campaign. In his absence, Williams noted how some discussed his injury and their undue, unfair reaction to it. All of that noise clearly struck a nerve as he finally came back to the Bears' lineup against the Atlanta Falcons on the road on Sunday.
In his return, Williams defended himself in the best way possible: By playing like a stud. He was masterful for a Bears offense that needed its special maestro to operate on all cylinders. Williams completed 30-of-36 passes for 305 yards and a touchdown in a much-needed 31-23 Bears win. For those of you who are good at math, that is over an 83 percent completion rate and nearly 8.5 yards per pass attempt.
That's elite stuff, folks, especially considering all the backbreaking (ticky-tack) offensive penalties the Bears' offense kept committing to limit its output.
None of it would slow the Bears' face of the franchise down, who came out slinging it and never stopped:
It’s third-and-17.

Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze convert it with relative ease. Check out the separation from the big man. pic.twitter.com/aMdCK5zNg6
Williams never once looked rattled on the afternoon. He kept the Bears offense in rhythm and on schedule and seeded lasers all over the field to Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, and Colston Loveland. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Williams-led Bears went three-and-out on a possession. The Bears needed Williams to be special in his comeback, and he was.
So, I suppose the signal-caller earned the right to go full Kirk Cousins after his masterful return. As reported by ESPN's Courtney Cronin, as Williams ran into the locker room, he pointed to the visiting media and asked them a familiar meme-like question at this point: Y'all like that?! Of course, Cousins famously once said, "You like that?!" but you get the reference.
Caleb Williams just ran into the locker room from the field, looked at the visiting media waiting to enter and channeled his inner Kirk Cousins.

“Y’all like that?”
Could Williams have used more original material? Was it necessary to pick a vendetta with his perceived critics, right or wrong? On both counts: Maybe! But I'm not about to tell one of the NFL's premier quarterbacks how he should defend himself in public and what sorts of emotions he's allowed to show on and off the field. I don't think the Bears will, either. That's how we got into this mess in the first place.
It would be a shame to ever try to suppress Williams' personality because it's part of what makes him so great.
