There's extremely good news and some head-scratching news regarding Jayden Daniels' elbow injury. Fortunately for Washington Commanders fans (and basically everyone else), the latest update is extremely positive. However, fantasy football owners may feel a bit more torn about how to handle Daniels' injury for one specific reason. Regardless, Daniels avoiding serious injury in a concerning moment against the Dallas Cowboys should be widely viewed as a sigh of relief.
While speaking with the media on Friday, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn addressed Daniels' injury and current status, revealing that he's week-to-week and that more information will be provided next week.
"Jayden won't be placed on IR, and he's week-to-week, and that is great news,"
Quinn said. "I have more info to share on that, what it looks like, as we get into next week."
This is obviously excellent news for the Commanders, and while they'll roll with Marcus Mariota at quarterback this week, it appears Daniels could be back sooner rather than later.
However, from the fantasy football side, feelings might be a bit different regarding the team's handling of Daniels' injury. This is where the head-scratching part comes in.
Fantasy football impact of Jayden Daniels' injury update
For fantasy football owners looking for a quarterback to fill the void with Daniels sidelined, the Commanders' decision not to place him on injured reserve makes things somewhat tricky. This means you can't use an IR spot to free up roster space and will need to drop another player, which, as all fantasy football players know, can be somewhat of a daunting task.
However, the silver lining is that Daniels' injury wasn't significant, something we should all feel good about, regardless of the fantasy world. But from a fantasy perspective, you may be forced to drop a player you've been stashing for a reason to grab a new quarterback, and that's never an easy move to make.
One additional layer is the unknown of exactly how much time Daniels will miss, which only adds to how tough game planning around it can be. You'll typically plan around how many weeks a player will miss when targeting a replacement quarterback, but may be forced to go week by week in this situation.
