Rockstar Games has officially rewritten the playbook on video game marketing, even if it's only for six hours. The most anticipated video game release possibly in history, Grand Theft Auto VI, is set to release new gameplay footage on August 27. The news was revealed by Rockstar Games on Thursday, and the new release will come in a never-before-seen format: it will not premiere on YouTube, but instead debut exclusively on Netflix.
This means that before the new gameplay footage drops on Rockstar's YouTube channel or the Grand Theft Auto VI website, there'll be a six-hour window starting at 3 p.m. ET on August 27, during which Netflix subscribers can get the first look.
"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix Thursday, August
27 at 3 p.m. ET and will also launch on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI site at 9 p.m. ET on August 27," a press release read, as highlighted by Variety.
This is an unprecedented and interesting move for the video game industry, and the content card is already live on the Netflix website, with a description calling it "the next evolution in the groundbreaking 'Grand Theft Auto' series."

Why 'Grand Theft Auto 6' is teaming up with Netflix
One thing that stands out about this decision by Rockstar Games is the approach to rolling out a gameplay trailer, which many fans appear to be extremely happy about. After all, it's fair to say that the hype behind Grand Theft Auto VI is already on its own stratosphere, so why not give the people a real look at what the gameplay is like? It's a smart marketing move, and teaming up with Netflix is certainly unique, but from a business standpoint, it's fair to assume it makes sense for both sides here.
