The NFL is set to play its first-ever regular season game in France on Sunday, but the Steelers-Saints game's status has been put in doubt amid the political situation in Paris.
Over the past few days, Paris has seen a wave of protests and demonstrations turn into violent riots as people took to the streets to protest the cost of living crisis in France. With many of the demonstrations becoming destructive, there were obvious safety concerns about the Week 7 matchup at Paris' Stade de France.
Come Monday, the NFL offered an update for the game. And as of now, there are no plans to postpone the scheduled international matchup.
The league said in a statement, via AP:
“Preparations continue as scheduled for NFL events and the game at Stade de France
next Sunday.
“We continue to work closely with local authorities and partners on all operational and security matters. We are also providing the two clubs with regular updates. There’s been no disruption or impact at league sites.”
The NFL is also used to intense safety precautions when it comes to international games. For the Eagles-Packers Brazil game back in 2024, players were instructed to stay at their hotelsout of security concerns.
A similar approach will likely be in effect for this game.
