The Denver Broncos are off to a 4-2 start to the season. They're right in the mix behind the AFC West-leading Chiefs. But much of the Broncos' success this season has been in spite of quarterback Bo Nix.
But when it comes to looking elsewhere at the quarterback position, head coach Sean Payton isn't entertaining that idea just yet.
Nix passed for just 107 yards in Thursday's win over the Seahawks, and it was his second straight game being held below 125 yards in the air. And while the Thursday Night Football broadcast harshly criticized Nix's performance, Payton appeared to just see the slow start as room for improvement.
He told reporters on Monday when asked if he considered benching Nix. Via Pro Football Talk:
“To answer your question, no. He’s
going to become the byproduct of all the finer things that get improved. The improved play from our offensive line, the more efficient we are relative to balance, running the football. That’s our jobs as coaches here. We talked after the game about we’re excited to get that win, and yet at the same time find that improvement we need in all areas. So, it starts with all of us.”
Nix will have an opportunity to prove Payton right in Sunday's game at the Cardinals.
