Week 3 of the 2026 NFL season begins Thursday night with an NFC matchup between teams looking to right the ship after some early struggles.

The Green Bay Packers

(1-1) were upset by the Vikings in Week 1, and they needed a 10-point fourth-quarter comeback and overtime to beat the Jets in Week 2. Those issues pale in comparison to those we've seen from the Atlanta Falcons (0-2) through the first two weeks, though.

With Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa both hurt, Cooper Rush started the first two games before undrafted rookie Jack Strand spelled him last week after poor play. Now, Penix is set to make his season debut, but will it be enough after a start that featured a 20-13 loss to the Steelers and a 34-3 loss to division rival Carolina?

I'm not sure Penix's return will save an Atlanta offense that has been putrid so far. The bright spot, per usual, is Bijan Robinson, but he must now face a Green Bay rushing defense that has been one of the NFL's sturdiest through two weeks.

Green Bay has its own offensive issues, though, particularly along the line. Starting tackle Zach Bako-Bewele was carted off the field on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season with a torn patellar tendon. The Packers will also be without starting guard Aaron Banks in this game, as well as receiver Jayden Reed, who was also carted off the field against the Jets.

I think this banged-up Packers outfit that is already without Josh Jacobs could struggle to score here, but to pick Atlanta would require putting faith in its offense to capitalize, which is something I can not do at this stage.

Prediction: Packers 21, Falcons 13
