Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos' offense looked lifeless once again last night against the Seattle Seahawks. Despite winning 17-14 in overtime, Nix passed for only 107 yards on 27 attempts, drawing ire from Ryan Fitzpatrick for his "garbage" effort.
It was a massive struggle for Denver to hit deep shots last night and throughout this season. Nix blamed the lack of big plays on soft zone coverage looks, and he even gave himself credit after the Seattle win for taking what the defense gave him.
"I thought I saw the field really well, especially early when we were given opportunities to sort of be aggressive," Nix said. " ... Every once in a while, we had an opportunity to throw it deep again, and they were in a soft Cover 2 shell, covering it deep,
and we had outlets for 10 yards of space. I don't understand why we can't really push the ball vertically right now, but defenses are just sitting back there hanging out."
Not being able to push the ball vertically is putting it nicely. Nix ranks last among qualified starters in both yards per attempt (5.6) and intended air yards per completion (5), which makes little sense considering Nix's gunslinging history and the offseason trade for Jaylen Waddle.
Nix will hope to put his struggles behind him next week against the lowly Arizona Cardinals.
