The Cleveland Browns opted to go with Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback for Sunday's season opener against the Jaguars, but Week 2 is already looking uncertain.
It's never a good sign when the head coach refuses to commit to a quarterback after a loss.
The Browns were blown out, 34-10, in Jacksonville with Watson playing far worse than his efficient stat line suggested. Watson threw an interception on the first possession, and it was downhill from there for Cleveland.
Speaking to reporters after the game, head coach Todd Monken declined to commit to a quarterback for Week 2 against the Buccaneers. He didn't blame Watson for the loss, but he instead said that he would have to watch the tape to evaluate the quarterback situation.
He said

“I’d rather just talk about today, because I haven’t had time to even look at the tape. . . . It wasn’t all him,” Monken said. “It really wasn’t all him. That’s unfair. Certainly could have called it better, certainly could have played better around him.”
"I'm sure as hell not firing me. I'm not firing our staff. I'm not getting rid of all our players. He happens to be one of 53. So, we'll evaluate everything. If the Browns do make a change at quarterback, Shedeur Sanders would be the starter.
