A critical division game in Melbourne, Australia, against the San Francisco 49ers wasn't the only thing the Los Angeles Rams lost in Week 1.
Amid reports that superstar pass-rusher Myles Garrett's knee wasn't feeling right, the Rams and Garrett elected to have him undergo arthroscopic knee surgery. As such, we will unfortunately not see Garrett on Monday night against the New York Giants as he recovers from his procedure. Garrett's absence is obviously a big blow to the Rams' overall ambitions, particularly what they want to accomplish as an attacking defense. However, it's also not a death sentence and obviously isn't permanent.
At the time of this writing, Garrett is about one week into the Rams' original timeline of four weeks for his return
from surgery. That means we can start to expect to see Garrett sometime in mid-October. Should all go well with Garrett's recovery, he might play at home against the Buffalo Bills in a Week 5 Monday night matchup. Should the Rams and Garrett decide to give him another week, a home date against the lowly Arizona Cardinals on October 18th feels like an even safer bet.
It stinks we can't see Garrett wreaking havoc for one of the NFL's current marquee teams. But we can take solace in knowing that he'll be back on the field humiliating offensive linemen soon enough.
