Why did Kate Martin leave the Unrivaled leauge for the 2027 season?
Martin and the offseason women's basketball league reached a mutual termination this week, meaning she will no longer be part of the 3-on-3 basketball competition series that takes place in the winter.
Why did Martin withdraw? Well, one possible reason is she's eyeing a spot with Project B, a separate offseason women's basketball league that will kick off in January internationally. Those dates would clash with Unrivaled.
It's also possible that Martin just wanted an offseason's break from basketball after playing for two different WNBA organizations in 2026 in the Los Angeles Sparks and the Chicago Sky. The Golden State Valkyries cut her before the season while trimming the roster.
We're not entirely sure why Martin won't be playing in Unrivaled this upcoming season, but those are out best guesses.
Where will she play in the WNBA in 2027?
The Sky signed her to a developmental contract before the end of the 2026 season, so it's possible she stays in Chicago.
