The Philadelphia Eagles may have been able to escape Nashville with a win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2, but they did lose one of their more important players in the process.
Long-time starting tight end Dallas Goedert, who sprained his MCL in the victory, will miss at least a few weeks while he recovers from the injury. Goedert's absence will be massive for the Eagles from a two-way perspective, given his presence in the middle of the field as a pass-catcher and his ability to set the edge as a run-blocker for running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts. There's a reason they signed former Eagle Zach Ertz to fill in the blanks while Goedert is out.
As for when we can expect to see Goedert in Eagles green again, I think the safest
bets come around the midway point of October. We could see Goedert suit up for the Eagles on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, October 11th. If Goedert and the Eagles deem that he still needs that week to recover, a home date with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, October 18th, feels like a very good target for a return. Coming back then would give Goedert nearly a full month to heal from his knee injury.
It's unfortunate for the Eagles and Goedert that they will be without their starting tight end for a little while. It's fortunate that it shouldn't be too long in the grand scheme of a full 17-game NFL season.
