The Philadelphia Eagles are down another key offensive player amid what's been a bizarre season. Quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
It's unclear how exactly the blood clot developed. Hurts suffered a calf injury Oct 4 against the Los Angeles Rams and received treatment for it ahead of the Eagles' London game on Sunday, as well as early this week. He practiced in full Wednesday, but an ultrasound he underwent that day "revealed movement in the small blood clot," the Eagles said in a statement.
So, Hurts will miss at least the Panthers game. Philadelphia declined to reveal whether he'd be available beyond this week.
Philadelphia's
offense in Week 6 will look almost nothing like it did at the beginning of the season. Tackle Lane Johnson retired, center Cam Jurgens got traded to the Baltimore Ravens and Saquon Barkley is unlikely to play with a hamstring injury, on top of Hurts' absence.
Here's what we know about Tanner McKee, who'll be quarterbacking the Eagles while Hurts sits.
Who is Tanner McKee?
McKee is a third-year pro out of Stanford. The Eagles drafted him in the sixth round in 2023 and he's appeared in six games since, starting two. He's got good size at 6-foot-6, 231 pounds. For his NFL career, McKee has completed 54 of his 88 passes for 597 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. McKee beat out veteran Andy Dalton for the Eagles' backup job midseason, as Dalton got cut following an interception he threw in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears.
