Duncan Sheik, who propelled to stardom with his 1990s hit Barely Breathing and who won the Tony Award for composing Spring Awakening, died at the age of 56, as his official Instagram account announced.

"From his Grammy-nominated hit ‘Barely Breathing’ to his groundbreaking, Tony and Grammy Award-winning work on Spring Awakening, Duncan’s artistry touched many and leaves an indelible mark on the cultural landscape.”
What was the cause of death? It was due to organ failure, per his mother to the New York Times. Sheik had been "receiving medical care" earlier this week and was in critical but
stable condition o, per a statement on his Instagram account.
