Before diving into this, let's clear the air on one thing: A player's wife, significant other, partner or anyone else they're linked to does not impact the outcome of a football game. Not Jessica Simpson on Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys and certainly not Madison Beer on Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. However, one strange stat that surfaced after the Buffalo Bills' Monday night victory over the Los Angeles Rams shed (even more) light on the Chargers' brutal start to the 2026 NFL season.
Throughout the night, and specifically after a game-winning overtime drive led by Bills quarterback Josh Allen, his wife and actress/singer, Hailee Steinfeld, was seen celebrating and cheering him on at the stadium. Allen, in his fourth career
game at SoFi Stadium, home of the Chargers and Rams, moved to 3-1 there. However, fans were quick to pit another set of records against one another.
Steinfeld's record at SoFi (1-0) vs. Beer's (0-3).

Again, this obviously is nothing more than a playful joke and a bit of a tip of the cap after Allen's win. If anything, both Steinfeld and Beer deserve a tip of the cap for attending to support their partners. Regardless, it does underline the issues surrounding the Chargers, and that's the conversation.
The Chargers were a popular choice to give the Kansas City Chiefs a run for their money in the AFC West this year, but after a 0-5 start, that looks like a pipe dream. To make matters worse, they've lost two of their three home games at SoFi by double digits (12-point losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders). In Week 5 specifically, the Chargers were in prime position to get their first win of 2026, leading the Denver Broncos 17-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
That seven-point lead flipped to a six-point loss in the final frame, and putting aside the Chargers' final drive as the clock ran out, the team had four drives, 13 plays and an unreal negative-four total yards in the fourth quarter.
You can blame whoever you want for that abysmal fourth quarter, including Herbert. Regardless, head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel need to make some significant changes, and they need to happen quickly.
But, again, I can promise that a supportive partner being/not being in attendance isn't going to fix the Chargers' problems. This team's issues extend far beyond a lighthearted photo of Steinfeld and Beer, and they aren't showing any signs of improving anytime soon.
