The Seattle Seahawks are pivoting late on their initial expected free-agent signing, running back Joe Mixon. After ESPN reported on Monday that Mixon would join the Seahawks' practice squad, the team apparently changed its mind.
Mixon, 30, last played in 2024 with the Houston Texans, rushing for 1,016 yards on 4.1 yards per carry with 11 touchdowns. After spending the first seven years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, Mixon appeared to still have plenty left in the tank. The move was initially coming after rookie running back Jadarian Price was placed on injured reserve.
However, the Seahawks reportedly will no longer sign Mixon, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. The exact reason hasn't been specified yet, though Schefter says the team
decided not to move forward after Mixon underwent a physical.
As it turns out, the Seahawks decided not to sign veteran running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he underwent a physical for the team, per league source. Mixon will remain a free agent. pic.twitter.com/0blouVwvPU

While Mixon's last NFL game was a 2024 postseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on January 18, 2025, he's obviously been away from the league for just under two years. Schefter is citing the decision as coming after the physical, which may point to that being part of the decision, but we'll need additional clarification.
We'll update this post with new information as it comes regarding the Seahawks no longer signing Mixon.
