The Yankees humiliated the Red Sox in Sunday's doubleheader. And it got so bad that Red Sox radio announcer Will Flemming was left apologizing for comments he made in the seventh inning of Game 2.
With the Yankees already up 7-1 in the seventh, Jazz Chisholm Jr. easily stole third base after he noticed that the Red Sox were playing back in the infield and not holding him at second. Now, it's an unwritten rule for some that players shouldn't take extra bases in a blowout.
But this wasn't a blowout (yet), and Chisholm was doing his job to be aggressive on the base path.
Yet, this was how Flemming and WEEI color commentator Will Middlebrooks reacted to Chisholm stealing third.

Flemming suggested that Red Sox pitcher Jovani Moran should have thrown at Austin Wells in response. He also said that Chisholm was a "bush league player." Mind you that the Red Sox have 33 comeback wins this season, and a six-run deficit is far from the point where teams should even entertain unwritten-rule decorum.
On Monday, Flemming apologized for his remarks on Twitter/X and said that he didn't mean any disrespect with his objectively disrespectful comments.
I meant no disrespect to the Yankees players or organization. I could and should have used different words. These rivalry games get me fired up; I apologize for letting the emotion of the moment get the best of me.

The Yankees ended up piling on to win, 16-1. Chisholm was awarded a stolen base on the play despite the suggestion that it was catcher's indifference (Moran stepped off the rubber to make a move to third).
