Russell Westbrook is retiring with one heck of a resume: Nine All-Star games, nine All-NBA teams, an MVP in 2016-17, a pair of scoring titles, three assists titles and a well-deserved spot on the NBA's 75th anniversary team. Oh, and he'll finish with the most triple-doubles of all time (even though former teammate Nikola Jokic will pass him there soon enough).
Now that he's called it quits after 18 incredible seasons, the debate can officially begin: What spot does he have on the top-10 point guards of all time? We're talking about a player who averaged 20.9 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 8.0 apg and 1.6 spg, downright jaw-dropping numbers.
So let's jump right in with this debate.
1. Magic Johnson
The easiest choice here. He's one of the NBA's greatest players, biggest champions
and faces of the sport. Next.
2. Steph Curry
Another face of the league, the greatest shooter of all time, a game changer, rings and accolades aplenty. Another easy choice at the top.
3. Oscar Robertson
The first player before Westbrook to average a triple-double and an absolute legend.
4. Jerry West
The Logo was a megastar back in his day. He still is one today.
5. John Stockton
The definition of "point guard" in the dictionary with his nine -- NINE -- assists titles to go along with his stifling defense.
6. Isiah Thomas
The 6-foot-1 star who won two titles with the Detroit Pistons could do it all.
7. Chris Paul
You can't be called "Point God" and not be on this list. His consistency and ability to make offenses go was awe-inspiring.
8. Russell Westbrook
We've reached a tricky moment here. Westbrook over two-time MVP Steve Nash? But think about what Westbrook accomplished with all those triple-doubles and scoring titles and beyond. I think he belongs here.
9. Steve Nash
The court vision, the speed, the creativity... he was magical.
10. Jason Kidd
Another pure PG who was a terrific two-way player.
Honorable mentions: Bob Cousy, Gary Payton, Damian Lillard
It pains me to leave those three off, but someone had to be.
