To borrow the same joke everyone's making after the Seattle Seahawks lost to the Denver Broncos in overtime on Thursday night, Sam Darnold is back to seeing ghosts.
He threw two interceptions in the Week 6 loss, marking the third game this season in which he's tossed a pair of INTs. He's thrown as many picks as he has touchdowns, a year after he threw 25 scores to 14 interceptions and won a Super Bowl.
So that now begs the question: Is it time to bench Darnold for Drew Lock, who led the Seahawks to two wins while Darnold was injured and threw four touchdowns in those games?
There are folks calling for this to happen (see below), and there is the idea of giving Darnold more than just a few games to shape up. But after a tough loss and in an extremely
competitive division that includes the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, it could be a Super Bowl hangover of epic proportions if Darnold keeps throwing picks.
If I'm head coach Mike Macdonald? I'm at least considering it this week. You can't wait until the Seahawks bye in Week 11, and the next game is a tough matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. We'll see if we're reading his mind at some point soon.
