Fans of Stranger Things got a surprise on Friday morning as Netflix announced that we'd be returning to the upside down. Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure will be coming to the streaming series in 2028, taking us not to Hawkins, Indiana -- the home of our favorite band of Demogorgon fighting teens -- but instead to Marion, Nevada in 1955.
The new series will pre-date not only the original Stranger Things series, but the stage show Stranger Things: The First Shadow, as well. It will seemingly set up the conspiracy and experiments that created Henry Creel -- also known as big bad, Vecna -- and led to the portal to another dimension opening up in middle America in the 1980s.

The Duffer brothers, Matt and Ross, and longtime Stranger Things writer Kate Trefry are back, and some big names are already attached to the project from a director and producer role. Joe Wright, the acclaimed director of such projects like Atonement and 2005's Pride and Prejudice adaptation, is signed on to direct the first three episodes of the new series, as well as Shawn Levy (Star Wars: Starfighter, Deadpool & Wolverine) returning as a producer.
"We’ve been dreaming of Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure for many years now, and to see it become a reality is surreal and exhilarating," Matt and Ross Duffer said in Netflix's official release. "It’s Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new … actually, we’re not allowed to say any more. Now, on to casting. In the meantime — watch the skies, nerds!"
Does this mean Conformity Gate was right?
Not really. There were some fans who believed that another episode was coming after the Stranger Things finale, which didn't happen. This is a prequel scheduled for 2028.
