Marvin Harrison Jr. was seen as a generational wide receiver prospect when he came out of Ohio State in 2024. He was as much as a sure thing that many had graded at the position. That was what made his failed stint with the Arizona Cardinals all the more surprising.
The Cardinals apparently didn't go out of their way to support Harrison Jr. either.
As Harrison Jr. is set for his fresh start with the Texans, reports out of Arizona painted a soured relationship from the beginning. And it reportedly came down to a $50,000 Jugs-like machine called a "Seeker."
According to The Arizona Republic, Harrison asked the Cardinals to purchase a Seeker machine for the team facility. The advanced Jugs machine can replicate the throws of any quarterback, and it was
his go-to workout device at Ohio State. The Cardinals said no.
Via azcentral:
One early source of discontent centered on a catching machine that Harrison used heavily at Ohio State: The ‘Seeker,’ made by Monarc Sport. Unlike a traditional JUGS machine, the Seeker can replicate the exact throwing speed and trajectory of any NFL quarterback on command.
“He just made it a part of his routine every single day, making sure that every single minute that he had free to get better, he was making the most of it,” Kyle McCord, his quarterback at Ohio State, once told The Republic.
But when Harrison asked the Cardinals to buy a Seeker, the organization declined, according to a source. It is not clear who made that decision. Eventually, Harrison purchased his own, former NFL head coach Marvin Lewis said recently on the Inside Football show. Each Seeker machine costs approximately $50,000.
“Kid didn’t ask for much, but he really wanted that,” the source said.
Harrison was forced to purchase his own machine, so it wasn't like a piece of equipment was to blame for his lackluster NFL career. But the whole reported ordeal showed the lack of organizational support the Cardinals were willing to give their newly drafted star player from Day 1.
Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill had consistently scored among the worstin NFLPA report cards. That's the kind of story that backs up those failing marks.
