The new season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives dropped on Hulu on Thursday, and there was some big news broken just 10 minutes into the first episode. Taylor Frankie Paul, the lead of Mormon Wives, had her season of The Bachelorette shelved by ABC
after video from a 2023 altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, surfaced the week the show was supposed to air. The couple had a tumultuous relationship, resulting in an alleged domestic assault investigation and a custody battle over their 2-year-old son, Ever.Even though the season was canceled for viewers, The Bachelorette had already been filmed. And it turns out, Paul got engaged to Doug Mason before leaving the show. "Yes. So I am engaged to Doug," Paul says to the camera. "He
was the one that I liked from night one. There was instant chemistry."
The 28-year-old ocean lifeguard from San Diego seemingly won over the Bachelorette, but less so her friends and family. Jessi Draper, Mikayla Matthews and Mayci Neeley all got the chance to meet Paul's top three remaining bachelors during filming, and they gave fellow Mormon Wives Layla Taylor and Miranda Hope the rundown.
"Shane [Parton] and Lew [Evans] were amazing, we loved them, and we said these are the healthy choices," Draper said of two-thirds of the final three during a 1-on-1 with the Mormon Wives producers. "If Taylor is healed, she'll choose one of these guys."
"And then she has Doug," Matthews said in the very next clip.
"How do I put this kindly?" Neeley adds.
Matthews went on to critique Mason's authenticity, stating that he reminded her of Mortensen.
It wasn't just Paul's friends that thought she should choose any of the three but Mason. "My mom is not the biggest fan of Doug," Paul says in an interview with production. "I don't want to say he was her least favorite, but it was her least favorite out of the top three."
The new season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is now on Hulu.
