WNBA vet Kate Martin didn't have to wait long to find her new team.
Martin has joined the Chicago Sky on a developmental contract for the rest of the 2026 season.
Martin will now spend the last four games of Chicago's WNBA season with the Sky, even if that's not a whole lot of time to make an actual impact. With the Sky eliminated from the playoffs, evaluating a player like Martin with an open developmental spot makes sense.
She could also stick around in Chicago for the 2027 offseason and compete for a roster spot with that squad, but possible coaching/front office changes may obviously complicate that.
Why did Martin choose Chicago? Well, that may have been the only team to show interest, but she may also get some time on the court with the Sky

Martin burned through her developmental status with the Los Angeles Sparks before getting promoted to an active roster spot earlier in the summer. However, the team waived her late last month.
We'll see how she does with the Sky if she plays once their season resumes on Sept. 17 in Chicago against the Washington Mystics.
