One of the greatest defensive linemen in NFL history seems to be seriously mulling a return. Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay revealed Friday "things are going in the right direction" with regard to bringing back franchise icon Aaron Donald.
Donald, 35, hasn't played since his first-team All-Pro campaign in 2023. He played his entire 10-year career with the Rams, making the Pro Bowl each season while winning a record-tying three Defensive Player of the Year awards. His dominant presence on the interior of the Rams' defensive line helped secure a Super Bowl win over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022.
While McVay stopped short of saying Donald is definitely coming back, he hinted at a massive update when the team arrives back to its
Woodland Hills, Calif. facility later this month.
"There won't be any news on that front until we get back to Woodland Hills," McVay said of Donald, per ESPN. "We've loosely had some different timelines that are kind of temporary. I want to keep those between us just if something unforeseen happens, out of respect for him and the situation. But I know this: Things are going in the right direction. And if there's an arrow, it's trending upwards."
Donald has a chance to form a monstrous Rams defensive front alongside the newly acquired Myles Garrett. With Garrett fully in his prime with another two Defensive Player of the Year awards under his belt, it's hard to imagine a more unblockable front in the NFL.
