The San Francisco 49ers are now dealing with another key injury. Defensive end Nick Bosa will be out multiple weeks after pulling his calf, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It's the third major injury to the 49ers' front seven. Defensive tackles Alfred Collins and C.J. West both suffered major knee injuries, making interior depth an issue early in the 2026 campaign. West is expected to return this season unlike Collins, however.
Bosa has quite an extensive injury history himself. The former Ohio State star has torn his ACL three times, most recently injuring his right one in 2025. He was able to make it back in time for the 2026 season opener in Australia, but now heads back to the sidelines with this calf issue.
Here's everything we know about
Bosa's calf injury and what it means for the 49ers.
Will Nick Bosa land on injured reserve?
San Francisco is still deciding whether it wants to place Bosa on IR, Schefter reports. Bosa would miss a minimum of four games if he lands on IR, though the 49ers will likely exercise caution with the designation. The NFL only allows teams to activate eight players from IR, and with injuries mounting across the roster, the 49ers may be better off keeping Bosa on the active roster even though he won't be able to play for a while.
