The Seattle Seahawks can't seem to shake the injury bug as they start the 2026 NFL season. After losing Sam Darnold early in Week 1, the Seahawks got him back in Week 3 against the Washington Commanders. Unfortunately, the injury timeline for rookie running back Jadarian Price is unclear after the Seahawks placed him on injured reserve this week.
One thing we do know is that with Price sidelined and Zach Charbonnet not yet back from the PUP list, the Seahawks added free agent Joe Mixon to the backfield. While Mixon will join the team's practice squad, it's unknown if head coach Mike Macdonald will elevate him to the 53-man roster. However, Macdonald addressed the decision behind Mixon's signing as bluntly as possible.
When asked why the team signed
Mixon, Macdonald replied honestly, and his body language did most of the work, as Niko Tamurian of KOMO News revealed.
"We're down runners; we need running backs," Macdonald replied. "He's a good running back."

It's honestly pretty hard to envision Macdonald offering any other answer, aside from possibly explaining why the Seahawks specifically signed Mixon. Losing Price is an obvious blow, and now Seattle can see what the 30-year-old running back has left in the tank. Mixon spent the bulk of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, playing seven seasons and topping the 1,000-yard mark four times. Over that span, he scored 49 rushing and 13 receiving touchdowns.
Mixon's most recent NFL season came in 2024 with the Houston Texans, where he rushed for 1,016 yards on 4.1 yards per carry with 11 touchdowns, so it's not hard to imagine he could be productive if Macdonald and company called on him.
