Everything that could go wrong seemingly has gone wrong for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
Dave Roberts' team is a loss away from elimination after dropping the first three games to the Milwaukee Brewers
. The lineup has been underwhelming with Shohei Ohtani still mired in a slump, and after some initial hope Wednesday night, Blake Snell fell apart after six strong innings.Max Muncy bluntly said, "We're playing like (expletive) and they're playing great." Not exactly words of encouragement with Los Angeles' season on the line.
Still, the Dodgers have some reason for hope, and it comes from their manager's playing days. Roberts helped the Boston Red Sox complete MLB's first comeback from a 3-0 deficit against
the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series. He stole second base in the ninth inning of Game 4 and eventually scored the tying run, sparking one of the most incredible comebacks in sports history.
Roberts said after Game 3 he won't reminisce on his Red Sox comeback, though he noted his players are well aware it's possible for them to replicate it.
"I think they've seen the document, so they know it can happen," Roberts said.
The NLCS resumes at 8 p.m. tonight and the Dodgers have zero margin for error.
