Knicks 'phishing' test tricked employees who thought rings were offered: Report

Here's a wild report for you about the New York Knicks and the team's employees potentially receiving rings: The Athletic says that "many" employees at Madison Square Garden aren't getting them, but that some got an email in September that suggested they would.

That email, it turns out, was a phishing test -- if they clicked on the link at the bottom of the email, they were "forced to attend a mandatory cybersecurity class to help satisfy some of [MSG owner James] Dolan’s growing cybersecurity concerns, those team sources said."

Now, some companies do this as a normal part of cybersecurity training. But couple that with some getting their hopes up about receiving a championship ring? You could imagine the reaction:

Knicks did a phishing test on

the MSG employees with a fake championship ring offer?! Wow that is dirty😂😭💀 https://t.co/gt7cO0jwi2

Even if it was a phishing test, it's unacceptable to treat longtime employees — AND YOUR ASSISTANT COACHES — like that.

I hope the Knicks don't win another title for 100 years. https://t.co/73XyQWDtxA

From @TheAthletic:

The worst owner in sports; the worst owner in the history of NY sports, Fat Jim Dolan, sent emails to Knicks employees promising them championship rings

It was a lie; a test to see who would click on the link. All they got was a cyber class
