Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made waves in hockey circles at the end of August by publicly requesting a trade from the Winnipeg Jets. While Hellebuyck had been in trade rumors for a few years now, the public trade request was a big move towards his eventual divorce from Winnipeg as the 33-year-old goaltender seeks a Stanley Cup.
A few weeks have passed since Hellebuyck's public trade request and there has been little movement on the trade front. According to reports from TSN's Darren Dreger, the Jets have received "terrible" offers for Hellebuyck — likely due to his request undercutting any leverage Winnipeg would have — and that the goaltender likely won't waive his no-trade clause to remain in Canada.
On Tuesday, more bad news rolled in for
the Jets. According to another report from Dreger, Hellebuyck isn't likely to report to the opening of training camp this week in an attempt to hold out for a trade. The Jets are reportedly working on a response to the Hellebuyck situation, but all signs reportedly point to the goaltender being absent to start training camp.

As previously reported, there have been no compelling trade offers made for Hellebuyck to this point, and interest "remains minimal" at this time.

This situation has certainly gotten extremely messy for both Hellebuyck and the Jets. To make matters worse, Hellebuyck is starting the third year of a seven-year, $59.5 million deal that sees the goaltender make $8.5 million against the salary cap. The public trade request combined with the likely training camp holdout and his massive contract certainly have put the Jets in a bind for finding a good deal.
While Hellebuyck has not won a Stanley Cup in his NHL career, he is a three-time Vezina Trophy winner, has a career .916 save percentage and helped the United States win its first Olympic gold medal since 1980 back in February.
