A former Nebraska quarterback was cut from the NFL on Saturday. The San Francisco 49ers released Adrian Martinez after Kurtis Rourke won the No. 3 QB job.
The quarterback was inconsistent in his three preseason games. The California native threw for 346 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while only completing 52.9% of his passes.
Martinez played at Nebraska from 2018-21 before transferring to Kansas State for the 2022 season. In five seasons, the California native threw for 9,391 yards and 49 touchdowns with 30 interceptions.
He went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft but spent time with the Detroit Lions during their fall camp. Martinez has also spent time with the New York Jets.
The quarterback also played for the Birmingham Stallions of
the UFL in 2024. He earned the UFL's MVP honor and the inaugural UFL championship game.
Martinez's career is far from over. It'll only be a matter of time before a team needs to bring a quarterback in and there's no doubt that the former Husker will be ready.
