Nebraska volleyball coach Dani Busboom Kelly was vocal about outdoor matches after Sunday evening's Wrigley Field event was suspended due to court conditions. The match was suspended due to court humidity, which led to moisture.
This was part of the Big Ten\SEC Volleyball Challenge, and the match was stopped in the first set. The Huskers were leading 11-7 at the time of the stoppage, as the slick court made for difficult playing conditions.
At one point, players from both programs were seen helping mop up the court. Busboom Kelly is not a fan of outdoor matches, andshe reiterated that after a difficult night of weather conditions and play stoppages.
"There's a reason why our sport's indoor, and there's a lot of amazing indoor arenas or football
fields indoor or baseball fields that have domes. You saw us play one this year, an exhibition. I think there's opportunities to do some incredible things for volleyball. I do not think outdoor is what we should be doing."
Nebraska certainly attracts a national audience and is undoubtedly a major draw for TV networks. Busboom Kelly’s words may hold a significant amount of weight, as the Huskers remain one of college volleyball's premier programs.
