Nebraska soccer (2-2-5) played host to No. 11 Washington (7-0-2) on Sunday afternoon. After a wild match, the Huskers managed to tie with the Huskies 2-2.
Washington initially held the lead after scoring in the 30th minute. The match cranked up a notch part way through the second half when Nebraska scored two goals in the span of five minutes. However, the Huskies managed to get the equalizer in the final minute, avoiding their first loss of the season.
The Huskers battled with the No. 11 team in the nation, going toe-to-toe in shots and shots on goal. Washington got the edge over Nebraska in shots (18-17). But the Huskers did top the Huskies in shots on goal (7-6).
Karli Williams and Ava Makovicka scored the goals for Nebraska. Williams secured
her first career goal to tie the match. She finished the day with two shots. Makovicka helped give the Huskers the lead shortly after, ending the day with five shots with three on goal. Avery Gillahan faced six shots in the tie and earned four saves.
Nebraska hits the road for its two matches. The Huskers start their trip in East Lansing to take on No. 1 Michigan State on Thursday night. The match is set for 6 p.m. CT on B1G+.
