Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule is doing everything he can to prepare for the Oregon Ducks, including the late start time. The coach has moved meetings and practices back two hours as part of the Huskers' preparations.
Rhule used this during his time in college and in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers. The game is exceptionally late, with a 10 p.m. CT kickoff.
This is Nebraska's latest start time since a 9:30 p.m. CT kickoff at Fresno State in 2014. The Huskers won that game 55-19 on 110 yards from running back Ameer Abdullah.
Nebraska looks to bounce back this weekend after a heartbreaking loss to the Indiana Hoosiers. Rhule talked about the struggles of preparing for a game with a kickoff so late.
"They’re really well-coached by Coach (Dan)
Lanning. Back-to-back CFP’s and still competitive on both sides of the ball. We have a really big week of work to go on the road and go into that environment, that crowd noise. It’s a late, late game. I’ve never coached a game that late, but none of that really matters to us. We have to make sure we are prepared, focused and have a great week of practice."
This will be a unique process for everyone involved. This also continues a difficult stretch of the schedule, and one that the program can really take advantage of with a win or two. It will not diminish any excitement, but coffee will definitely be in order throughout the day.
